Australia played its first officially recognised football match on 17 June 1922 against New Zealand in Carisbrook, Dunedin. The players were selected from New South Wales and Queensland only, hence the sky blue jersey, white shorts and maroon socks. Australia lost 3-1.
This design features captain Alex Gibb’s number 4 on the back.
