Donikian Media Pioneer T-shirt

George Donikian is a name synonymous with multicultural media and broadcasting. His work as the first news anchor of the critically acclaimed SBS World News would see him become nationally renowned. So much so that commercial television's popular sketch show, Fast Forward, parodied him for his "ethnic" pronunciations. It was ground-breaking, as he would later become a cultural icon.

His career took off. He was offered anchoring roles for a number of commercial networks. Always remaining true to his Greek-Armenian heritage while being fiercely dedicated to Australian society.

Donikian was and continues to be heavily involved in the world game, pioneering soccer coverage for SBS even before the great Les Murray. He has served as president of South Melbourne Football Club and lent his voice to such events as the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

You cannot tell the story of Australian soccer broadcasting without mentioning the name, Donikian.
