In January 1939, a small group of Jewish immigrants, who had been kicking a ball around in Rushcutters Bay each Sunday, met to discuss the formation of a soccer club. That meeting resulted in the birth of Sydney Hakoah.

The club would participate in State-based competition for a number of decades with varied success until the establishment of the National Soccer League, sponsored by Philips, in 1977. Hakoah then underwent a name change to Eastern Suburbs Hakoah.

Eastern Suburbs Hakoah won the inaugural PSL. The following season, the club's name changed once more to Sydney City. They were the most dominant side in the competition for many seasons, winning four titles, including three in a row from 1980 to 1982, and finishing below third only once.

Despite the club's success, crowds were low and in 1987 - just one round into the competition - Sydney City withdrew from the league and folded. Notable players to wear the club's iconic sky blue included Ray Baartz, John Watkiss, Jimmy Mackay, Ernie Campbell, Eddie Thomson, Murray Barnes, Craig Johnston, Jim Patikas and John Kosmina to name a few.

This design celebrates the history of a once-great soccer club.
