On 5 September 2012, Alessandro Del Piero signed a two-year deal with Sydney Football Club. The highest-paid player in Australian football history. Del Piero wanted to continue his career in a new part of the world, where he could make a major contribution to the growth the game.

Del Piero scored four goals and also provided one assist in Sydney's 7-1 win against Wellington Phoenix in mid-January. It was the first time he had scored four in a single match. When substituted, the fans greeted him with a standing ovation. Despite his record-breaking tally of 14 goals in 24 appearances, Del Piero was unable to help Sydney qualify for the Finals.

In his second season, Del Piero was made captain. He went on to earn the club's golden boot. Sydney qualified for the Finals, but were eliminated by Melbourne Victory at Docklands Stadium. Del Piero had played his final A-League match.

On Sunday 10 August 2014 in Sydney, Del Piero captained the A-League All-Stars against his club of almost 20 years, Juventus. Over 55,000 people were in attendance at ANZ Stadium. Not for the first time, Del Piero was substituted to a standing ovation.

In April 2015, he was named to Sydney's team of the decade. He was also included in the Asian Football Confederation's team of the decade.

This design celebrates the man the late Juventus Football Club owner, Gianni Agnelli, named Pinturicchio. After Bernardino di Betto di Biago, a little-known but highly regarded artist, who worked on the frescoes in Rome's Sistine Chapel.
