W.D. & H.O. Wills, the makers of Craven Filter cigarettes, in association with the Australian Soccer Federation, brought the world-renowned A.S. Roma soccer team to Australia in 1966 to play a series of international soccer matches across the country. They were led on the tour by Guido Masetti, 1942 championship-winning goalkeeper and former manager.

Roma's tour to Australia was a huge success. The team did not lose a match and put on a show for Australian soccer fans from late May to early July. The schedule featured matches in Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

The Australian team, coached by Joe Marston, managed a 1-1 draw at the Sydney Showground. A goal by Bruce Morrow on 67 minutes put Australia in the lead. However, a dubious refereeing decision went the way of the visitors - a clear handball was not given by Roger Lamb - only for Roma to go down the other end and level the match in the dying minutes.

This design is dedicated to Australian football historian, George Cotsanis, who unearthed a priceless film titled The Romans Are Coming, which ended in an invitation to the Roman club to discuss the historical significance of the tour.
